Review: MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10

Hello Princesses!

Today I'm going to be talking about the MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10. This may be a strange review coming from me since I tend to focus on Asian Cosmetics and also since this foundation has been around for a very long time so it's not new and exciting, but sometimes it good to do a nice review on a good solid crowd favourite.

"A modern foundation that combines a natural matte finish and medium to full buildable coverage with broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 15/PA++ protection. Applies, builds and blends easily and evenly. Comfortable and long-wearing, it helps minimize the appearance of pores and imperfections, giving skin a smoother, more flawless look and finish.

Provides comfortable, all-day oil control
Oil-free
Sweat- and humidity-resistant

Non-acnegenic"(1)

This foundation comes housed in an elegant glass bottle with a screw top lid. You do need to purchase this pump separately, though I highly recommend grabbing one since it gets super messy without one.

I have the shade NW10 which is strange for me since NW is the cool toned shades (I like to think of it as "Not Warm" because it's super backwards) and I have very warm, yellow toned skin. This shade still works relatively well, though of course it does look slightly pink against my neck. The lightest shade in the warm tones is NC15 and that looks awfully tan against my neck, so I can't really win. This foundation does oxidise slightly on me and it does turn a little orange.
In comparison to my current best colour, NARS Sheer Glow Siberia, the NW10 is quite peachy in comparison! Though in the last photo you can see that the colour is on the same sort of pale-ness scale, just with different tones.
This foundation claims to give medium to buildable coverage and I definitely agree with that! I applied this quite lightly using a cushion sponge but I definitely know that I can build it up easily by using a denser brush of my fingers.
I find that this foundation does a really good job at covering up the redness in my cheeks and mattifies my skin really nicely! I like that some of my freckles/sun spots peek through because I think they're cute. I could definitely create fuller coverage with a second thin layer, but I don't really want to.
After about 6 hours of wear this foundation is still looking pretty good! It isn't greasy, it isn't breaking up on my face at all which is really nice! It still looks pretty perfect which is a massive feat for my skin.
In fact, this might be a Holy Grail for me if it was NC10 rather than NW10. It's just a little too pink to be perfect, sometimes it can work out, but other times it just looks so wrong. What a first world problem!

What I Love
- Great pale shade (though too pink)
- Easy to apply
- Works well with most primers
- Gives medium to full coverage
- Long wearing
- Oil controlling

What I Don't Love
- Too pink for me

Final Thoughts
I love everything about this foundation other than the colour. It's so easy to work with, it applies easily, works well with almost any primer or setting powder, lasts me all day and gives great buildable coverage. It's a great foundation and I can see why it is a cult favourite, but I just wish that MAC would create this foundation in NC10 because NC15 is too dark, and diluting it/lightening it does tamper some of the coverage and longevity effects which is such a pity!

I would recommend the MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10 for any Princesses that are cool toned, and looking for a good all round foundation.

  1. This foundation is the best match I've ever found! It's seriously the most perfect match for my skin, although it's still taking me some time to get used to not looking slightly orange... I am looking for a hydrating primer to use under it because it does irritate my dry eczema patches around my mouth, but the finish is beautiful. It's really strange that they don't make it in NC10. I thought that the lines on both NW and NC were meant to match up, just with different undertones? That's really annoying!

It's just a shame that it's not cruelty free, as I am trying to only buy cruelty free products now.

    1. It's so annoying, everything matches up aside from NC10 >< WHY MAC WHY!! They are making changes to become cruelty free, but unless they stop selling in Chine I don't believe that they will ever be entirely cruelty free :C

  2. I am cool toned and NW13 is a perfect match for me - overall I agree with your review in terms of coverage and staying power. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I just wanted you girls to know that MAC has finally released the SFF in NC10 ! No lie ! I've just purchased it. Watch for yourself online. I had the same problem with the NW10, it was a bit too pink for my skin and I could tell the color was wrong compared to the color of my neck/arms/hands... So go grab yourself the NC10 ;-)

  4. Have you tried NW13 as well? I'm trying to decide between NW10 and NW13 and I'm really torn.

  5. just wanted to comment that they now have nc10!!!! i had the same problem as you, it was too pink for me but i still used it because its cheaper than nars and easier to buy in my country - but i finally ran out and today i went to the mac store to get a new foundation, and they had it! its a perfect match for me, i actually almost cried from happines because this is the first time a foundation truly matches my skin tone and i dont have to feel self conscious about undertones or my face being too dark anymore! :) you should definitely try it if you havent already, im pretty sure it will be perfect for you too :)
