I've tried a lot of Foundations, BB Creams, CC Creams and Concealers since I started blogging. I usually try to ask for testers or samples before buying foundations since my colour is not a "standard" colour. Sometimes I cannot get samples, or they don't have testers, but are cheap enough that I just buy them without trying, so I end up with a lot of products that are not quite right.
At a rough guesstimate, I would say that I have tried about 80 odd foundations, BB Creams and CC Creams. This may seem like a lot, but if you think that at least half of those have been in tester or sample form, then it seems a lot less insane! Out of all of those foundations, BB Creams and CC Creams, I have found under 10 that are the right colour.
Sometimes there are some products that I cannot really review, because they are too dark for me to wear for a whole day. If I can't tell you about how it wears, (oxidisation, oil control, lasting power etc) all I'm going to be telling you is what colour it really is! So I thought that I would show you guys some swatches of products that I couldn't review, aka, Fail Pale Products!

First up is Kleancolor's Velvet Moisturizing Liquid Foundation in Translucent Beige.
This was a very cheap buy, ($6NZD) for what looked like a super light coloured foundation. But when I came home to wear it, it turns out that it really is translucent! It doesn't cover pores, scars, redness or any veins. It's literally a tinted moisturizer that doesn't really moisturize or provide any benefits for my skin.
This was another cheapie, ($7NZD) that looked so promising, but turned out to be the wrong colour and with an awful consistency! It just kinda moved around my skin without sitting, or absorbing, or doing anything but looking flakey and horrible. Urch!
Here are the arm swatches from Kleancolor and L.A Girl. You can't really see anything in the last picture because they really just disappear. How am I supposed to review products that just disappear? *grumblewasteofmoneycheapproductsgrumble*
The next set of swatches are from one off samples and the Rimmel and L.A Girl, which are in there for no good reason at all really.

The next set of swatches are from my semi-recent ASOS haul, where I bought some Rimmel London products that turned out to look a lot different to online swatches.
The Rimmel London Match Perfection in Light Porcelain is a pretty good match in paleness for me, but is quite pink-toned and therefore not very suitable. The other products are laughably dark considering that they are the lightest colour in their range. The BB Cream is the darkest out of the three products.
My last set of swatches is from my latest destash of Foundations and BB Creams. I tried to order them from lightest to darkest, but some are a little out!

I still have a lot of Foundations, BB Creams and CC Creams to photograph, catalogue, so I'm sure there will be a part 2 to the Fail Pale Products! I hope this was helpful for people looking for moderately pale foundations and BB Creams!
holy swatches *_* I can't believe it's so hard to find a shade that suits you! :( That really sucks. You'd think it would be easier with Korea but they all seem really dark on you anyway. Have you tried the face shop's CC cream? It seems pretty pale, but then again still might not be enough. I'm sorry =(
ReplyDeleteHaha these are only the ones that are "un-reveiwable"! I've been wanting to try the Face Shop CC Cream for ages, but I can't find any samples and can't quite justify splashing out like $20USD for it *_* It's totally on my list though! ;)
DeleteIt's really difficult for me to find a shade when it comes to foundations too! I have difficulty with BB creams as well, but not as much as foundations. Most likely because foundations tend to be more pigmented and all.
ReplyDeleteI'm an NC25, so I'm quite fair, and yellow-toned foundations suit me best. Like you, the pink toned foundations just look off on me. I don't like blending any makeup past my jawline because it has a nasty habit of staining my clothes, so finding a good foundation shade match is a must.
What makes the whole process of finding the right shade harder is that my face is naturally a shade darker and slightly pinker than my super pale neck and chest. So it's such a fine line to find that shade which doesn't make me look like a ghost because it's too light for my face, but also doesn't look like I just tanned only my face while my neck and chest remain pale.
Oh honey you're preaching to the choir here haha! ;) I just match my foundation colour to my neck and embrace the ghost look, but i know some girls that fake tan their chest and neck to match their face. (They have darker arms and legs though) I'm currently editing photos for my skin post on Friday which shows how different my face is to my chest ><
DeleteFor warm/yellow toned foundation I've found that high end is better than drugstore, unfortunately! But there is the advantage of high store product testers, which you can't really get for drugstore products. Bobbi Brown is fantastic for warm tones!
Wow, that's a lot of products! I'm probably as pale as you so I'm in the same position with trying to find a foundation that suits me, though I haven't tried as many products as you have. I may give the Rimmel London Match Perfection a go as you say it's a good match for paleness and I'm quite pink-toned as well so maybe it will work for me. If I give it a go I'll definitely post about it!

Ooh let me know if you try the Rimmel London Foundation! It's probably the palest drugstore foundation that I've tried, but it's got quite natural coverage. If you like the Rimmel colour, I would recommend MAC Studio Fix NW10 too, because it's pretty much the same colour, but with a fuller coverage! (:
DeleteGreat post, I have super pale skin and I find that illamasqua have the best range for pale skin tones (the even have white foundation) and the dr jart platinum bb cream is great for my pale dry skin x

I've been wanting the Illamasqua for so long! It's so expensive to ship to NZ unfortunately :c I'll be having a look at the Dr Jart though, thanks for the recommendation! ^^
