Fail of Holy Grail Review: The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost

Hello Princesses!

Today I'm going to be talking about the The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost! I did a first impression on this a year and a half ago (omg time flies) and felt very ambivalent about it. I decided to purchase it while it was on sale and as you may be able to tell from the title, this is for sure not a product I would purchase again.

"Best if you want to: Create instant smoothing radiance with a silky smooth finish. It's an ideal skin pick-me-up to enhance your glow and our favorite Vitamin C product!

Best for: Dull skin

How it works:

Contains Amazonian camu camu berry, which is known to have one of the highest contents of vitamin C in nature. Antioxidant vitamin C brightens skin, encourages collagen production, improves elasticity, and works along with skin-softening vitamin E to protect skin from environmental aggressors. Community Trade Brazil nut oil moisturizes and softens skin.

Cyclopentasiloxane (Skin-Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Dimethicone (Skin Conditioning Agent), Cyclohexasiloxane (Conditioning Agent), Dimethicone Crosspolymer (Emulsion Stabilizer), Synthetic Fluorphlogopite (Viscosity Increasing Agent), HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer (Anticaking Agent), Fragrance (Fragrance), Ascorbic Acid (Antioxidant), Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil (Emollient), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Glycerin (Humectant), Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate (Skin-Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Polysilicone-11 (Film Former), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Silica (Absorbent), Benzyl Benzoate (Solvent), Myrciaria Dubia Fruit Extract (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Water (Solvent/Diluent), Hexyl Cinnamal (Fragrance Ingredient), Citronellol (Fragrance Ingredient), Mica (Opacifier), Titanium Dioxide (Colour)"(1)
The packaging of this product is really lovely and simple, reflecting the vitamin C range with it's bright orange casing. It has a pump applicator which is fantastic for keeping the product hygienic and mess free.
The skin boost has a very thick, silicone texture. It's super slippery and it actually makes it harder for make up to adhere to the skin rather than prepping it for foundation like it claims to. I found that the Skin Boost did give my face a little radiance, but it made it so slippery that I couldn't wear it with or without make up.
I don't really see much difference in the before or after photos.
I still can't see any difference in the closer photos.
I applied the Vitamin C Skin Boost to the left half of my face in this photo, and still can't see any difference.

What I Love
- Smells amazing

What I Don't Love
- Expensive at $50NZD
- Contains a TON of fragrance
- Makes make up hard to adhere

Final Thoughts
I wish I saw improvements on my skin when using this product, but in all honesty it is literally doing nothing for my skin. It's not having a negative impact on my skin, but it certainly did on my wallet which makes me a little unhappy in all honesty. It smells amazing, but in saying that it does mean that it contains a lot of fragrance which can be irritating for sensitive skin.

I'm not sure who I would recommend this Skin Boost too since I think it's kinda a waste of money.

  1. I'm sad to hear that it didn't do the job. I always steer clear of perfumed and fragranced products, they just mess up my skin like crazy! My skins very sensitive! I admire such an honest reviewxx

  2. In the photo where you applied it to half of your face, is it your left or my left? I really think I see a slight difference on your (actual) left, on your cheek, just like I think I do in your before/after pics, but I might be imagining things.

    1. It's a tricky one huh! It's applied on the left side of the photo (or my physical right side).
